A parent’s guide to e-bikes

Parents Guide to E‑Bikes, E‑Scooters, and E‑Motos Thinking about an electric ride for your kid or teen? Here’s a quick guide from Recycled Cycling Bike Shop to keep your family safe and legal: E‑bikes come in 3 classes: Class 1: Pedal‑assist only, up to 20 mph, no throttle. Class 2: Pedal‑assist and throttle, up to 20 mph. Class 3: Pedal‑assist up to 28 mph. Important safety & law reminders (check your local laws): Many communities require riders to be 16+ and have insurance to ride e‑bikes. Class 3 e‑bikes are NOT allowed on bike paths or shared trails. E‑scooters and e‑motos frequently require riders to be 18+ and may need registration, licensing, and insurance—more like motor vehicles than bicycles.

At Recycled Cycling Bike Shop, we: Only sell Class 1 and Class 2 e‑bikes, which are allowed on local bike paths. We do NOT sell or service e‑scooters or e‑motos. If you’re a parent with questions about what’s appropriate for your child’s age, riding style, and local rules, stop by Recycled Cycling in Warrenville and we’ll help you choose a safe, legal option that fits your family.

Recycled Cycling Bike Shop, proudly established in Warrenville, Illinois in 2020, is built on a simple belief:

bikes bring people together.

What began as a small, community-focused shop has grown into a trusted destination for cyclists across DuPage County. We offer a wide range of new bikes, quality pre-owned and reconditioned bikes, plus expert service, repairs, and full restorations.

Our shop is deeply rooted in community. From group rides to our annual Chili Cook-Off, Bike Show, and countless local partnerships, we believe in giving back and creating spaces where everyone feels welcome.

Whether you’re a first-time rider, a daily commuter, a mountain biker, or a seasoned road cyclist, our goal is to make sure you feel valued, supported, and excited to ride. At Recycled Cycling, you’re not just buying a bike—you’re joining a community.
